Jerry's got half his money tied up in Collin County real estate.

The idea that he's cash poor isn't that much of a reach.

Many years ago I had dealings with Developer Donald J Trump and he was very cash poor. I don't think it's that unusual for those guys to operate that way.

So what's everyone's thoughts on Micah?

IMO, they have to stand their ground right now and set a new precedent. The agents have been winning lately and the front office has to reset the negotiation table at The Star.

If the Cowboys give you a "fair" contract extension offer and you don't take it, we aren't going to offer more, we are going to make you play out your current deal. And after that, we are going to franchise tag you!

EDIT: Pulled up yesterdays podcast between Cavanaugh/Broaddus after posting and they open with this exact topic... guess I'm not the only one thinking about this today.

I don't believe a word that comes from Jerry or Micah's agent about the situation. But I believe Micah when he says he wanted to get a deal done the last 2 offseasons and got silence from the Cowboys. I don't blame him for being fed up with the dog and pony show in Dallas.

As a Dallas fan, I would have like to see him traded last offseason or this one if they hadn't signed him yet. Micah is top notch. But pass rushers are neutered in the league and Micah wears down by winter. All the top pass rushers have tons of film of them being held every pass play, and nothing ever happens. I think Micah's last few holding penalties were all on run plays. You have to think it's on purpose by the league to reduce wear and tear on QBs. Knowing that, it's hard to justify investing a ton of resources into a position the NFL won't let succeed.

So I would have traded him for the best pick package I could find. If you could pull in an amazing trade haul, then you wish him well and have an instant upgrade in a lot of other places. Also, drafting is the strength of our organization, and I would put a lot of picks in McClay's hands and wait for magic to happen

The Jerry/Micah saga does bring me back to Stephen with the feeling that he's constantly hamstrung by his dad. I know he's quite unliked around the league and is known to be unavailable but I often find myself wondering if he is unavailable or playing hard ball because he has no choice due to his father putting his boot in his own mouth when it comes to negotiating. Stephen isn't ever going to go against his father so the best thing to do is hunkering down and support him regardless of the insanity.

First of all, I 100% agree that the best pass rushers are neutered by the league. There is no excuse for the lack of holding calls against the handful of guys that quite literally can't be blocked.

And with regards to Micah wanting a deal done much earlier... I will give the Cowboys a little credit. I've heard multiple people say there was/is caution for not giving Micah that much money. He doesn't bring much to the table in terms of leadership. In fact, it's been reported that players have asked the coaches to "do something about Micah".

He's nowhere near Charles Haley crazy and, like Haley, he does lead by example with the way he plays. But there is some "stuff" with him and his personality that have been disruptive to the team.

Jerry's comparison to mom & dad makes no sense.

An agent is literally hired to represent the interests of the player. He has to negotiate with them whether he likes it or not. Going behind the back only creates problems

This whole thing is so dumb and unnecessary, but since I would have probably traded him a year ago, I'm fine with Micah playing this season under this deal, franchising him next if needed, and possibly trading him anywhere along the way. They've already ****ed it.

absolutely. franchise, then franchise again.

Yep. As much as I think they butchered this thing for a year and a half, there is one thing I agree with them on -> they have the leverage.

Agreed.

Micah is a beast... absolute beast. But you can't pay them all. If the offense shows up this year and Pickens and Lamb make a monster duo, I'd take the Micah money and I'd pay Pickens, Tyler Smith, & try and get something done with Bland.

After that you would assume that we get (at minimum) Two 1st Rounders for Micah (1 this year and 1 next). So now we have a team with multiple prime age pro-bowl/all pro players under long term deals and we've got FOUR first round draft picks to work with over the next two season.

If I were a GM I could work with that.

Nice to see a team that functions. None of it means **** but compared to the last two games this is better.

Philly going to kick our ass but maybe we can get something going.
jr15aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Definitely a better showing all around.

The Dline looked more disciplined in their gap assignments and thus had a lot more consistent movement into the other teams backfield.

Milton looked like a completely different QB and the receivers had a good night overall.

I'm still not convinced this is gonna be a "we want to run the ball" team. I think it's gonna be Air Dak all year.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correct. And why wouldn't we be with the receiving threats we've got. We've just got to run it enough to keep teams the slightest bit honest.

I do think we have the chance to be a better running team as the year progresses, the o line gets more reps together and we get Guyton back, but yes we're not going to be a great running team barring something insane.

So glad the waste of pre season games is over.

No doubt Jerry signs Micah sometime next week for a league leading contract. Micah is just batsh#t crazy enough to sit out a season.

No way you get 2 no. 1s for Micah, especially with his somewhat divisive attitude.

Trade him. This year is gonna be ugly anyway.
Tksymm7

I still don't know why it wouldn't be discussed that if you could get two 1's and a DT, you could draft almost any QB you wanted to next year and start planning for life after Dak. I want no part of giving him another contract.

IF you could get 2 1s for Micah it would be great! But that ain't gonna happen.

I say trade him for Terry McLauren straight up. Imagine TM in the slot for Dak?

So trade the guy wanting huge money for another guy wanting huge money?

You mean trade the unquestionably elite guy at a premium position wanting huge money for the much older and not nearly as good guy wanting huge money.

I'm all for trading Micah if the return is reasonable, but at this point that's going to have to be before the 2026 draft, not right now.

Well at least we know there is at least one person who'd be a worse gm then a Jones. You got a better and younger WR for a 3rd round pick. Trading Parsons should get you at least one 1st round pick.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would just like it known that the only way I'd be fine with trading Micah would be to acquire draft capital with the intention of moving up in the draft to get a QB. That is literally the only scenario because a new star QB is the only position/player more valuable than what Micah is and the position he plays.
texagbeliever
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think DT is the most important / valuable position on the field.

Chiefs have Chris Jones. Eagles Jalen Carter.
