My thoughts on the parsons trade: I ****ing love it.

For several reasons:

1) I honestly think the relationship between jerruh and Parsons soured so if we did t trade him it was dove been two years at franchise price then FA

2) I have always hated players holding out for bigger contracts. Maybe it's how I was raised but as a man you play out your contract in good faith then negotiate.

3) We got a massive upgrade at DT and two first round picks. I'd take that every day all day
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...
I'm the rare Astros/Cowboys/Spurs fan. We do exist

I remember years ago giving up a late first to Buffalo for a 2nd and next year's 1st.

Expectations were that Buffalo would be horrible again and it would be a top 5 pick. Turned out to be a late teens pick.

I think that pick ended up being Marcus Spears and we were the team that had the horrible season and used our pick on D Ware.

So yeah, no idea what those #1s will be. Very possible for GB to have a bad season one of those years and it's a top 15 pick.

Yeah, I'm very much a Jordan Love skeptic, and while they may very well be good for 2 years, I am not sold on that at all

I just don't understand why people are so distraught over this. This team wasn't winning the Super Bowl this year or next or probably the year after with Parsons. Jerry has refused to invest in their weakest areas to make that a reality. But now he zags, addresses the weakest area of the team, and tries to insure a different/better future. I guarantee if the cowboys blow their load to go up in the draft and get a future QB people will change their tune pretty damn quickly.

Because Jerry and Luka. That's it.

Yep. The current formula just wasn't working. 4 years of trying it. The one new wildcard this year is Pickens. If that works but you give Micah nearly $50 mill, then Pickens is likely gone, so then back to the formula that wasn't working.

And crap teams aren't trading for Micah. All you were ever going to get was two #1s and some change from a solid team. That's what they got

I can't speak for everyone, but with respect to the media and especially Dallas based media a lot of this is anger. Anger at Jerry for putting them in an impossible position. They like when Jerry does things so obviously dumb or rash that nobody could rationally defend it, and they get to be as negative as they want with no potential repercussions.

However, with this move they have two options: Acknowledge that it at least has the potential to be a good move, and thus violating their "never compliment Jerry" rule and contradict their past comments, or hold their ground and argue anyone who thinks this is a good move is an idiot. That is so obviously a bad faith, biased take on this instance that it gives the game away and makes them look silly. Nobody honestly believes there isn't a rational argument for how this move works out for Dallas, because we've seen this exact sort of move benefit multiple teams throughout league history. It's just patently absurd.

Jerry put them in a tight spot and they are seething. Go watch some of the YouTube videos put out this evening by the various pundits. A lot of it is blind rage.

I've never seen Florio that unhinged. He looks like he wants to strangle Jerry, and it's not because he just loves Micah Parsons in blue. It's because he has benefited a lot from his anti-Jerry takes, and now he has to take a position people are rightly mocking in the comments.

Another note - Myles Garrett has been amazing. All you can ask for. What has that gotten Cleveland? Zippo. You gotta have a QB and WR combo that can move it. Dak-CD-Pickens are what you have to lean into. Gotta stay healthy, but they are your chance over the next 3 years.

Another example is Jeff Cavanaugh. I like him, but he has realized how beneficial to his career the anti-Jerry shtick is and he's been all in the last year. Tonight he was ENRAGED. Nothing like his usual tongue in cheek self. He is terrified that in two years he'll have a career ending amount of crow to eat because he has clearly stated nothing Jerry ever does or ever will do will work.

Between the cap space and draft picks and young guys getting healthy over the next year, this franchise has every chance to have a really good defense next year. Now will they throw their weight and resources around? I doubt it, but they have (by NFL cap era standards) the closest thing to unlimited offseason resources next year to fix that side of the ball.

I agree, I'm just saying in theory they'll have like $70 million in cap space if they want it and 4 picks in the top 80 or so (assuming we don't make the playoffs). That's a rare amount of resources for a front office in this day and age, easily for a team with a good QB later in his career.

I am amused by the fact that people universally thought this team was going to suck with Micah and now they are absolutely freaking out about them trying something different.

And again, this trade package they got was what a guy like Micah would draw any time of year. Two #1s and change from a solid team. That's the rate and that's what they got.

Well, they can't jump off the Cowboys hating train and admit that this possibly could turn out to be a good move by Jerry. That wouldn't give them any clicks.

And I'm saying that as a Jerry hater.

Schottenheimer smells like a Campo to me, but who knows. Lots of goofy energy that just seems stupid once you start losing. That said, there's an outside chance he could be a decent Pete Carroll energy type of CEO head coach. He's goofy too but he knew how to make it work. Schottnheimer has had the chance to learn under some good ones. Problem is I think he is set up for failure trying to be OC at the same time. I think he needs an OC and in 5 months they'll be hiring him one. In the meantime, the question is whether you can succeed with Dak basically being the real OC

Danny preaching truth tonight.

I've posted a lot of thoughts and can't remember if I said it or not already... But this team was going nowhere in the playoffs with Dak, CD, and Parsons eating up so much cap.

I think this move can make us a more complete team immediately and it certainly gives us a chance to greatly improve this teams core over the next 2-3 years.

This is not a rebuild move IMO... This is a take your shot while you still have a franchise QB move.

If a dude was willing to fake injury so he wouldnt be fined for missing practice/camp, who knows what he would have done if the cowboys were threatening to tag him for two years. He had to go.

As much as I hate Jerry's press conferences, his rationale for this move basically sounds like he's on this thread. He literally says they believe the reason they haven't had playoff success is their inability to stop the run. Micah is elite, but the better teams can easily neutralize him by running at him.

Nobody wants to give Jerry credit for trying to get better. But he did say this isn't working so we need to try something different. 82 years olds don't often say these things. I don't care about Jerry enough to make him the reason to hate this move. With all I know about this team I truly believe they were a NASCAR fast front running team and Schotty wants to be a methodical power team. This is a move toward that.

Thanks but don't put me in that camp and for the rest of you, don't undermine the skeptics in here as if we're ****ing reetards. I have no more faith in the jones family to leverage what they did than I did in us making waves with the Dak/ceedee/parsons era. Sorry, but 30 years of idiocy with a couple of amazing rosters that didn't amount to anything doesn't make one "blind with rage." Don't act like it's 2001. It's 2025 and Jerry and co have blundered the team into a laughing stock of a once incredible proud franchise. I don't live in Dallas and haven't for 2 decades, but sure seems like the DFW residents still have some locals koolaid in their bellies on some of this. Laughable that being done with Jerry to the point of near hatred is a gotcha in here. Come the **** on. Strap in for another season of Philly and Washington lapping us and looking like real deal front offices, while we continue to parade around as a football team with a cartoon character dictator at the helm.

And, if and when we turn these draft picks into the next round of stars…are we just gonna pretend we're not in for more rounds of this **** show with this clown at the top? He'll just continue to undermine his players behind their backs and say and do anything to keep his name on the daily talk shows. Jerry is just that CEO that you run into in your career that is a total pos and a soulless human being. If this works out for us great, but it will be luck and not due to Jerry.

Appreciate it. I too see all kinds of insanity on social media comments and on twitter. There are a lot of dummies out there that do think Micah was going to get us a ship. The only was that was going to happen was for the 6 best NFC teams to all lose their QB to torn acls…on the same day, in week 2

No, I'm saying that even with those amazing rosters, we didn't stand a chance to see the top because of the circus that the jones family has turned this organization into. It's an amusement park first and a football team 2nd. You can be a world renowned team and still be about the sport first. We should aspire to be a lot more like the Yankees and a lot less like the Savannah Bananas. Football is just so secondary to whatever this thing we call the cowboys has turned into.

I keep seeing pundits and random fans saying Dallas should have done this sooner so they increased their pool of potential trade partners and gotten a better haul.

Am I REALLY being asked to believe the Panthers or Saints or some other projected bottom feeder would have given up more than two first round picks and a defensive starter for the right to sign Micah for $50 million? REALLY?! A bad team is going to leverage their future for a player who won't make them appreciably better now just because this all went down 5 months earlier?

It's complete nonsense. Only contenders consider deals like this. Bad teams don't trade resources like this for anyone but a star QB or the right to draft a potential star QB in the top 5. There was no scenario where we get picks that are expected to be high for Micah.

Everyone on the ticket was so dumb today. Acting like we didn't get much in return. Bob is essentially saying we should've gotten 3 first round picks (golden was just taken) and a second. Has anyone ever gotten 3 first round picks in the nfl? Not that I can think of. And he thinks we should've gotten that plus abscond or third on top? And Green Bay would then have to pay $47 per year to Micah?

That's not even close to realistic. It seems like we got more than the Khalil Mack trade (depending on how you grade Clark), and everyone was saying we wouldn't be able to get a Mack haul just a couple weeks ago.

We would've definitely gotten more back in April during the draft though….

I disagree. We would've still gotten 2 firsts and then maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder as icing. That's fair when the draft is weeks away.

The trade happening now landed us a pro bowl type DT because now the draft is months away. The icing went from a day 2/3 pick to a player that helps us right now.

I would have still been on board with the trade in April, but I think I prefer what happened here. We've needed an impact player at DT for a very long time.

He'll be 30 in a month…at DT. He did make 2 pro bowls and an alternate spot as well, but again, he'll be 30 on OCt 4

And is currently considered one of the best run stoppers in the league…

They didn't just trade for some scrub who was on the verge of sacking groceries in a week…he is a stud against the run…

Know who wasn't? Micah Parsons…

Great pass rusher…below average run stopper…

He had one sack last year.

Sturm is saying Cowboys needed a 2nd or 3rd round pick and Edgerrin Cooper or Matthew Golden also if they were trading to an in conference rival.

He's a defensive tackle. He's actually a pretty good stylistic partner for Osa, who is more of a disruptor and pass rusher from the interior.

I think you just made his point.

Thanks shack, but your weird love fest for jer bear and Nico had me tuning you out long ago

I don't love either of them, I just don't let them ruin every waking moment of day like some people.

The main reason I would have been interested in doing this earlier is that I'd like to have at least one if not both of those inevitable #1s on my roster already. Again, I make this move in the spring of 2024

Love the 4 first rounders coming up. Now if we could get a GM…

They've got a guy that knows how to use them. McClay ammo is the best thing this franchise can acquire

The Mavs ruined plenty of days for me. Jerry made me apathetic to the boys long ago. Every once in a while, I'll fall back into the trap of hope and be hoodwinked again. For football, the Ags make up 90% of my football fandom pie these days. Used to be 50/50.
