Bingo, but hanging AFC South banners and getting bounced in the divisional round has always been good enough.

Demeco pushes out another turd as usual - he almost polished this one but no dice

Offense is just really bad. Wow. Not sure where they go from here. Stroud resembles Carr more and more each week…doesn't trust his line, and for good reason. We barely tried to run the ball.

Just awful to watch.

I think CJ can be a good QB if he has a great OL but he's toast without that and that's not something that can be fixed quickly at this point. It'll probably take at least a couple seasons to build out a good OL and still isn't a guarantee. The Texans are definitely in a predicament now about how/if CJ fits into this organization long term

Why does this defense consistently play great for almost all the game and yet cannot come up with the stop when the game is on the line and you absolutely have to have it?

I don't know if anything would change soon if they had a different owner? While I think Cal is an idiot, this is on DeMeco and what he built this team to be. NC can go, but at the same time, DeMeco could have gone out and forced things to be fixed this offseason and we did nothing. The only thing a new owner "might" do is force changes more often, but even the that's a crap shoot. I just don't know how we got here from 2 years ago, and how the organization let it get here even with Cal has a coach.

But even then, what is the plan for this team? We drafted 2 WRs with our first 3 picks, yet through 3 games they have combined for a grand total of 6 catches for 76 yards. Why did we trade back? Why didn't we address specific needs everyone could see? We said we needed better talent at WR, well if that's the case then would should be trying to use that better talent....soooo.....

WHAT THE **** is the plan for this team? What is our identity, good defense? But what does that mean? Can't get a stop at the end of the game when something is on the line, so are they really a good defense? Have no clue what kind of offense they're even attempting to run at this point. I mean the biggest identity we have in common on both sides of the ball is that we lack discipline. The mis-management is horrible, and DeMeco doesn't seem to have a clue on running anything or how to push his players properly.

It is absolutely amazing that this team somehow right now looks worse than the end of the BoB era.....which is insane....

I think at this point cj needs to go elsewhere

Might be good ro consider trading him while you can get a good return for him

3 games, 2 total TD. One of which came on a crazy catch. The other came on a busted play. That's all that needs to be said at this point.

Certainly not worth the pick he was chosen with if we were to try to move him today.

I was enamored with CJ as anyone, and still hold out unwarranted hope he's going to succeed as our franchise QB - but he's only thrown for more than 2 TDs in a game once in 3 years, and this season he's averaging less than 200 yards passing per game and has thrown more interceptions than TD passes.

For as much as Caserio built an offense designed to hinder CJ's effectiveness, Stroud hasn't done much to elevate everyone around him like special players do.

Crazy thing is they are three plays away from 3-0.

Offense needs to get it together. CJ looks much better in up tempo, which is what he ran at Ohio State.

Point is the offense is dreadful and they are in every game to the wire. Fixable, but not the sign of a good team.

the problem goes back 3 years...

when the Texans decided to hire a defensive-minded head coach and pair him with a young 1st round QB who needed development

numerous posters cautioned about that combination. Would have preferred an offense-oriented head coach to teach and develop the young QB. And frankly prioritize that side of the ball.

instead the Texans have built a defense-first team which DeMeco likes...because he's a defensive-minded coach

I think it would have been fine if he paired himself with a seasoned OC, but instead he went with up and comers, which could be excited the first time. It's just that when that plan failed, he didn't learn, and did the exact same thing. Now looking back on it, it's a huge red flag from multiple points of view that is pretty damning on DeMeco. Either he's too stubborn to admit he needed someone with more experience than himself to run the other side of the ball or he's not smart enough to figure it out. Both are horrible signs for the future, no matter how much I do like DeMeco the person.

The league overall has a lot of parity. How you play in the last part of the 4th quarter is very important. And we **** the bed again. Last three drives ended in turn overs on offense. And we gave up the big play on defense.

We are not clutch at all.

The o-line is so bad that I honestly think we'd be better served putting Mills and Mertz out there to endure the beating so they don't ruin any chance Stroud has to develop into the QB he can be. I have concerns they're going to turn him into David Carr 2.0, he's losing confidence and he could get injured to boot. If anyone listens to The Athletic Football podcast they do a really good job at explaining how bad things are right now. Houston is one of about a dozen teams to score less than 40 points through 3 games, and those teams are all infamously bad. Stroud literally looks like he doesn't want to play right now and I can't say I blame him. Houston has nowhere they can turn to for hope at the moment, you can't look at what they're doing on the field and even be able to determine what they want to be doing because it's such an abject failure.

With 38 points the Texans have the worst point total in football in three games. The Lions (65 points) and Ravens (88 points) haven't even played their third game this season. Houston is scoring 12.7 points/game which is just ludicrous. They are averaging 267.3 yards/game which ranks 29th. The defense is only giving up 17 points/game which ties them for 5th best in the league. The offense has converted 8 of 33 third downs (24.2%) which is the worst in the league.

You can make arguments for how much Stroud, Caley, or Ryans has contributed to this ineptitude but Caserio is responsible for building the team. What he's put on the field is at best incompetence, and at worst intentional neglect.

They are so bad that the argument could be made to trade Stroud in the offseason for as much as they can get because he's a better option than any QB in the upcoming draft. The only way they could turn around the o-line quickly would be to trade high value defenders for offensive linemen. As crazy as it is to say does it make any sense to have guys like Hunter, Stingley, and WAJ on the roster if our QB can't be protected? Whoever is the GM after this season is going to have to answer serious questions in order to fix the o-line in order to give the team as a whole any chance at future success.

Caserio owns a lot of the blame, but Demeco has hire not one BUT two inexperienced awful offensive coordinators.

So I guess you could say Caserio is still at fault for hiring a bad HC.

I fault Caserio for not flat out telling Demeco "yeah, we are not doing that again".

Yall need to wake up!!

Caley was just as much a Caserio hire as it was a Demeco hire. He's a NE Patriot guy who was there during Caserio's tenure.

He runs that NE offense that only works with the best QB to ever throw a football.

Everything is the problem with this team. The GM, the HC, the coaching staff, and the players. There is not one thing with this organization that is worth keeping the status quo.
Texan_Aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I still don't know they had much of a choice. Letting a first time defensive head coach hire a passing game coordinator as an OC was the first mistake, but I don't know how they fix it.

Maybe they can bring in Brian Daboll once he gets the axe? Idk.
redag06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So, if that were true, that just means that Demeco is yet ANOTHER puppet hire for HC.

A HC gets to pick his coordinators, and he isn't then he is no different than Culley.

DING DING DING

Look at the results. You think it's just coincidence that we're watching David Culley-quality football?

Same shlt different pile.
Texan_Aggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I wouldn't go that drastic. The defense is currently one of the best in the league... Offense is putrid and kills any momentum.

Demeco has been to the playoffs twice and won each time. It's not the best, but it's a long way from that Culley and Lovie season.

Texans Reddit has the OL PFF scores for pass pro. Unsurprisingly LG and LT were our most egregious turnstiles. Tomlinson somehow was graded worse than Ersery.

Ersery - 35.3
(61st out of 70 in OTs)

Tomlinson - 24.0 (that may be one of the worst scores I've seen for a Guard)
(66th out of 71 Guards)

Andrews - 70.4 (6th out of 35 Centers)
Ingram - 50.9 (46th out of 71)
Howard - 68.2 (25th out of 70)

60 is a league average score.

That was one of the worst offensive games I've watched wire to wire in a while. I expected the offense to struggle for many reasons, but being entirely clueless on play calling wasn't one of them. I'd like to see the rookie RB move ahead of Chubb to get more snaps. The two WR rooks look promising as well, particularly Noel on the punt returns.

That being said that's 3 weeks in a row when the game announcers are basically trying to walk through why the Texans can't do basic fundamental things. It's pretty infuriating to endure.
