Because Nick has shown through his actions that he would rather set the market than react to it. I think more guaranteed money is coming for all players, it was a matter of time before 2nd round picks were in that conversation. Nick probably recognized this and beat the market to the punch.

In summary, Texans have become very proactive on things rather than reactive, and a lot of teams in the league don't want to stray from status quo.

100%. I'd rather have a GM like Nick proactively setting the CB market with Stingley than reacting to it with the next guy. Look at how Jerry has handled Lamb, Prescott, and Parsons. He waits and ends up costing himself more money. I can remember when he was dealing with Zeke who was a first round pick and Dak who was drafted several rounds later and he prioritized resigning a RB who already made first round draft pick money over the late round QB who far outplayed his draft position. He makes things contentious with his best players. After next season I'm sure Nick will be working on the Stroud and Anderson extensions rather than waiting to the end of their rookie deals and costing the team even more money and possibly some goodwill between the players and the organization. When it comes to the draft picks I don't think he wants to be the Bengals who can't get deals done with their best player on the defense or their first round draft pick. It's better to be the guy giving guaranteed deals to second round picks than fighting going into training camp.

Apparently there is a difference of opinion on what should be done for rehab from his foot injury. I got to believe that with the Raiders apparently trying to recover some of the guaranteed money they owe him (which is over $50 million in just 2026 after releasing him), that he let himself go and hasn't been doing what is necessary with a severely broken foot.

Some good takeaways from camp so far

Really excited that Ersery is trying to find people to give him as much extra help after practice. Also awesome for Will Anderson Jr to take the time to help him

Starting to sound like Ersery is looking good so far and it's a good be he's going to be the starting RT.

So the right side is probably set with Howard at RG and Ersery at RT. Now we need to finish up the left side.

Today I learned that Nick Caley has known Azeez since he was in high school.

Wow, if Caley can motivate Shultz to give the proper effort......

Not to be a hater, but I would take the bet that Schultz will not be a top 5 TE. Heck I would take the bet he won't be a top 10 TE. (Maybe he is a great run blocker, im not taking that into account).

Texans offensive success will depend on Nico and Higgins.

I'm not saying him being a top 5, I'm talking about turning him into a reliable pass catcher which is a world of difference from last year. He sucks as a blocker, but then again Slowik didn't do him any favors in that category, so maybe he's a great chip blocker. But, Caley is a former TE coach, so he knows how to maximize a pass catching TE, which can take an offense from good to great.

Having a formidable TE across should help too. Stover was a rookie and teams knew he wasn't receiving threat last year. Between him improving (hopefully) and Brevin returning, this should help alleviate.

So he's the only person I've heard with this take and I feel like he's fishing for views. I mean CJ is the clear number 1, and I have no idea how Caley runs the offense. But it's weird to throw this take out there on the 2nd day of full pad practice.

No one else has brought this up so far, like Stoots is usually more on the even or a bit on the pessimistic side and I haven't heard anything along those lines (He has also been in person at every practice).

I mean, maybe Stoerner is right, but since he's usually goes for a negative point of view, I think he's just throwing out click bait type stuff.

Time will tell, but I'm going to stay on the optimistic side so far this off-season

Seth Payne has pointed this out too. Reality is that the snap count is not normal for a QB1 this time of year. Hard to find a good reason for that especially when you consider we are installing a new offense.

Time will tell, yes. I too am optimistic but a liar if I try to say this does not at least raise my eyebrows.

I get it, CS is not my favorite. But, he is out there. He has first hand knowledge of how QBs are handled in camp. CJ is not getting the "normal" snap count load. Why?

His overall grade last season was below average from PFF.
61.6 (29th out of 37 TEs)

His receiving a grade was a little better (but still below average), with a worse ranking since catching is a lot of what good TEs do.
63.7 (30th out of 37 TEs)

I assume there are only 37 TEs who had the ball thrown their way enough to qualify. He had 84 targets, which was 9th out of 37 TEs.

I did see that one too. Nothing big since then, I've been watching the press conferences and no one has brought it up for a coach to address.

CJ sounds good, for what it's worth. Hopefully this was just Caley trying to understand what he has at every depth level?

Hope so. Either way it is not normal. I am gonna resist temptation to lower my undefeated season expectations for now Lets.... Gooooooo....

10 Winners and Losers after 2 Weeks of Texans Training Camp

Not a ton of surprises, interesting he thinks Denico Autry is already a cut candidate, but I can see it if Darrel Taylor (on this list) and Byrd are really showing out as good as we're hearing.

Also think Juice Scruggs is a cut candidate (Fisher isn't but he's on the loser list). Man, hoping Ersery really breaks this streak of our top OL pick in a draft being underwhelming. Hopefully with Caley and Pop guiding what they need Caserio has better points to work with when selecting O-lineman....because damn, saying 3 straight years coming into this year has been a disappointment, is a bit of an understatement at this point.

What exactly is Christian Harris' injury? Dude hasn't played since the end of 2023.

A calf or something? I mean he had a calf injury at the beginning of the 2024 season which has somehow kept him from playing for 2 years? Maybe he's just one of those uber talented people that is lazy as hell?
IrishAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Oh, and another thing from that list I forgot. For how bad they've been at evaluating OL talent, they have been even better at finding DB talent, wow. Jaylin Smith has been all over the field at different positions during camp making plays left and right. And he's probably just going to be a role player for us this year.
