Though we got a win this weekend, this team is still in a bad place offensively.

64 points scored puts Houston at 29th in the NFL, which is only better than the Bengals, Browns, and Titans. The winless Jets (90) and Saints (66) have both scored more points than Houston has. Houston has converted only 14 third down attempts, tied for worst in the league with the Jets. Their third down success rate of 29.2% only exceeds the Titans at 27.8%. Houston is one of the best teams on 4th down though, converting 5 of 6 attempts. Houston is in the bottom 10 in both passing and rushing yards.

Stroud is 79 of 117 (67.5%) for 832 yards with 4 TD's, 3 INT's, and been sacked 10 times.

Houston has a -2 turnover margin, Jacksonville is number one at +9. Even with a great defense they're not generating turnovers. They committed a total of 30 penalties for 241 yards. The good news is the Jags have committed the most penalties at 38 for the second-highest amount of 308 yards. The Colts have also committed 30 penalties for a total of 224 yards so the AFC south is riddled with undisciplined teams.

Positives:
Houston has the number one scoring defense in the league at only 51 points conceded. I know it's the Titans but a shutout in the NFL matters, especially if it's against the Adams family.

Next 4 games:
@ Baltimore (1-3)
@ Seattle (3-1)
vs SF (3-1)
vs Denver (2-2)

Jackson is likely to miss Sunday's game against the Texans and could miss two or three weeks, according to the Baltimore Sun.

This would be nice.

They host the Rams the week after the Texans, they could really be in a hole. Although i can also see Derrick Henry having 38 carries for 240 yards and 2 TDs against the Texans in a 17-9 win.

It's very interesting how intent you start watching games with even a little money on the line. I have that "problem' with college football based on the fake money I've invested n the TexAgs pickoff.

I haven't done fantasy football in some time, so it does give some rooting interest outside of just hoping my home team wins.

I found myself checking the box score this morning to see how Chase did.

Thanks for spicing things up!

Jeez I forgot to update Chase because he's on my ESPN fantasy team and a total train wreck without JB

The Texans/Ravens initial line was Ravens -9.5, now it is Texans -1.5, I know the Ravens have half of their team injured, but that is a huge swing.

Makes sense though

Lamar goes down and Rush is lined up for the start against this defense so a ton of money goes down on the Texans and the line moves as a result.

I'd actually be offended as a Texans player that a Cooper Rush led team is only a 1.5 point underdog against me.

Still a tough test.

Ravens are at home and they're kinda like the Texans in that they're backed into a corner and they need to win.

Even with Rush starting it's not gonna be an easy to get a W.

Where did you see it at 9.5? Everything i've seen says it was 3.5 to open.

It was the very early line right after Sunday games, not every place had a line…then Monday it was -6.5…then to -3.5…and now Texans -1.5.

Even with the recency of the rivalry that line is insanely high.

I would agree, if for no other reason than the Ravens D is awful….however, and I like this Texans D and did last year, for whatever reason a healthy Ravens O seems to have the Texans number.

Lines move based on where money is going.

Obviously with the news Rush is starting and the other injuries the public hit HOU hard and the line compensated.

Speaking of fantasy football……..is there anyone in here secretly plugged into the team? I'm holding onto my late round Joe Mixon flyer like a baby holding onto a blanket but if he really has no chance of playing this year I need to cut his ass and get some injury replacements. Hate to do it especially if I can keep him on the cheap next year but can't have him eating a spot on my bench all year either

I'm not a big fan of mixing fantasy and team threads but Joe Mixon isn't playing for the Texans again.

There's chatter that he's about to get his contract voided for how he hurt and treated his ankle without notifying the team.

So yeah...you can drop him.

Yet another bad move by Caserio.

I don't have any inside info, but just listening to 610 regularly, this seems to be the consensus. Texans aren't leaking any details, but Mixon did something to hurt himself and then didn't follow whatever protocol there is to work with the team afterwards. Mixon probably violated his contract in several ways and it wouldn't be a surprise if the Texans seek legal remedies they have against Mixon.

I suppose anything can happen, but reading between the lines, I'm doubtful that we ever see Mixon in a Texans uniform again. I think bridges have been burned.
JCA1

Yeah. Seems like he got hurt doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing and then tried to treat it on his own in an effort to keep it from the Texans. I'll be shocked if he ever wears a Texans jersey again.

Alright thx y'all. I know, don't mix fantasy and "real football" but since this is the Texans thread and I'm not super plugged into the team, figured somebody might know more than me

What a f***up that guy is if all the above is true

This is probably correct. He broke that girl's face, and even if she was indeed racist and aggressive towards him, that isn't an excuse for what he did. He showed horrible judgment back in college, and it appears he has done the same thing as a Houston Texan.

I don't recall Mixon having any trouble as a Bengal, and maybe that is why Caserio decided it was ok to roll the dice. But, a tiger doesn't change its stripes.

Yeah I don't have a problem with the Mixon contract. It was a gamble on a good player. It's the bad player contracts we gambled on that need to be pinned on Caserio.

The Cam contract was terrible. $12 million and we traded him after 3 games in which he played one. The Browns pay just over $3 million (which is also their cap hit) while we eat the $8.25 million signing bonus and the prorated salary from 3 games.

https://www.dawgsbynature.com/cleveland-browns-salary-cap-contracts/105348/cam-robinson-contract-browns-assume-small-amount-salary-cap-hit

The Eagles ate our lunch in the KG trade. Both players were cut/released, but we restructured CGJ's contract to give him a $6.6 million signing bonus to make sure he was paid if it didn't work out. He also counts as a $5.6 million dead money cap hit next year. We basically traded unplayable players to acquire the Eagles' cap hit next season for CGJ. We got tagged with a $ 3.7 million cap hit for KG this year too.

https://overthecap.com/player/chauncey-gardner-johnson-jr/7896

https://overthecap.com/player/kenyon-green/10060

To replace KG at LG we brought in Tomlinson who has a 49 PFF score (88th out of 102 guards).

https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/laken-tomlinson/9461

There was a reason he was willing to take a 1 year $4.25 million deal, and it wasn't because he was good.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/16752/laken-tomlinson

So Caserio relatively splurged at LT, paid most of the money up front, and then jettisoned Cam for next to nothing. And he went cheap at LG which was our weakest position last season, and continues to be this year.

Considering the amount of resources that have been thrown at the line, it's pretty clear Nick has no idea how to fix it. This will likely be his downfall here.

No doubt.

Looking at the positional spending it looks like we just threw up our hands and said if we're going to suck at the OL why bother spending any resources there.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/position/offensive-line/_/year/2025/table/active/sort/cap_total

We spent $26.9 million (less than 10% of the cap). Our total spending and per player spending are comfortably in the bottom 1/3 for OL. The top 1/3 spent $48.9 to $71.3 million on their OL.

But looking into it more we took a $15 million dead money cap hit this year for ridding ourselves of Tunsil and another $8+ million for Cam's one game. Add in another $3.7 million for KG and we're close to $27 million in dead money on the OL which is the most in the league.

That's how you Caserio an OL.

Tunsil is doing ok with a 77.2 PFF score (10th of 110 tackles) and 87 in pass block (5th of 110).
