We are definitely starting to see the Caserio/Demeco draft pattern.

Tons of moving around in the draft. Sometimes they gain value, sometimes they give up value. Seems to net out about even in the end.

Heavy bias towards guys they watch and interact with in Mobile.

Value football character and positive college coach reviews over raw tools.

Not afraid to go get guys they want, even if it looks like a reach relative to consensus rankings.

Seems like there is always a healthy mix of "that pick made total sense" and "where the heck did that come from?"

As long as they keep churning out 3-4 good players per draft its all good.

I'd rather of had Ewers than Mertz as a backup.

Ok, got a chance to review day 3, and other than the fact I think we moved too much), I'm pretty happy with the draft. We just seemed to move back to get new picks to then burn those new picks to move back up, but a little further back than where we started. Only spot I thought we could have done better overall is grabbing a guard somewhere in the middle rounds.

I'll give this draft a B+ to A-

We filled some gaps, are bringing in a lot of people who can compete and push for a starting spot, and they are really honing in on "their guy" mentality people. Saw an interview with Ersery and the guy asked him how the coaches at Minnesota always get good o-lineman and his response was they find guys that love to play the game. So, overall while this draft brought in upgraded talent, it sounds like the coaching staff were just as focused on making sure everyone coming in has that "buy in mentality" to help make their teammates and team better (and not just cash paychecks).

  • I love the Iowa State Receivers
  • I'm a fan of Ersey and think he has a lot of room to grow
  • I really look the 2 DBs Smith and Reed. Smith can play nickle but move outside if needed and Reed can play Safety but move to nickle if needed. Versatility and depth are very nice.
  • RB Woody Marks was a head scratcher, but the more I dug into him it seems like he's a 3rd down back that can also spell Mixon with Pierce. Apparently Marks has great hands and is good at picking up the blitzh
  • Mertz. - OK, no clue on that one and again, not sure why we needed to trade up to get him?
  • Kyonte Hamilton and Luke Lachey are both both great 7th round grabs

This came out a couple of days ago, but I didn't see it until today. This just reinforces that Ryans is the guy we need coaching this team. I love when Hunter says it's basically never quiet in the building, there's always an energy in the air, guys just see each other and start yelling. I also loved hearing Stingley was going to celebrate his extension with some crawfish and wasn't going to be a different guy just because he got paid.

This just popped up on my feed from three weeks ago (I think because they edited the title)

Yeah, at least you could see a world where Ewers could take the reigns for a half season if CJ gets sidelined, and not a huge dropoff. Not sure I could say that with Mertz. Maybe I just don't know enough about him like I do Ewers.

Apparently Jerrod had a big say, so I'll have to trust him. I'm sure he knows plenty enough about Ewers too.

Ewers isn't mobile at all and although he seems like a good guy he isn't an NFL QB in my opinion. Tu played only 3 decent opponents all year and we were the only one they beat. Mertz is likely an upgrade over Davis Mills.

Seems like Caserio was viewing this guy as the DT he wanted.

"North Carolina defensive back Alijah Huzzie, a transfer from East Tennessee State, is a 5-foot-10, 193-pound cornerback. He had two interceptions in a win over Pitt last season and returned two punts for 82 yards and a touchdown. At East Tennessee State, he had 179 tackles, 30 pass deflections and a dozen interceptions and was named a first-team All-American.

Huzzie represents a value addition for the future because he had fourth-round grades from multiple NFL teams, per sources. He was graded as one of the top five nickels in the draft by several teams and draft publications.

He can take this year to get fully healthy after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the East-West Shrine Bowl all-star game practice after a standout performance. Huzzie is making a speedy recovery and is ahead of schedule and could potentially make his debut late in the season.

Huzzie signed a three-year, $2.675 million deal, per a source"

Very nice signing.

Texans resigned Fatukasi, which is a sneaky good run defender to bring back with the rest of the DT room.

The new team president was brought in to help him campaign to have the city to buy them more shiny things. Cal McNair is so unlikeable, Tommy Boy comes in and undoes the good will his father brought to the city.

I disagree. Cal got off to a rough start, but he has grown into a solid owner. He has hired good football people (Caserio and Ryans) and he lets them do their jobs. He isn't cheap. That is basically all I want in an owner...hire smart people to run the franchise, stay out of their way and sign checks when that needs to be done. He does these things. Additionally, he supported the new alternative uniforms they came up with, and those uniforms are really good. Love that they did everything they can to get H-Town blue in those uniforms somewhere, in spite of Bud Adams's demon spawn objecting.

The Texans don't need a new stadium...I object to that completely. However, a facelift might be in order, and I have no problem with the Texans moving their headquarters/facilities similar to what Jerrah did with "The Star."

Tommy Boy has grown on me.

Second to Cal. He's not the CEO/executive his dad was but he's smart enough to get good people in the building and it seems like he's listening to the people around him.

I don't care if they do a full reno on NRG or if they build a new facility. I know no one likes paying for those things but it's gotta be a public-private partnership. I think they need to utilize and reconfigure the space they have there on the grounds between the dome and the stadium. There's a lot of space to play with and while it can be a pain to get in and out of there, it's still got great access. In a perfect world they build new on the site of the dome and then buy the land and re-open astroworld

Cal said the other day that they are looking to move their HQ's and practice/training facilities offsite, there wasn't anything he said about a new stadium.

The Texans are 1 of 4 NFL teams that have their offices and practice/training attached to their stadiums. In addition, given all the other events that go on at NRG, it at times has been problematic for players and staff accessing the facility and their offices.

That makes sense but I'm guessing it has just as much to do with gaining leverage through use of a scare tactic.

'Watch me move HQ elsewhere. Guess what's next?' type deal.

They've had other events there for as long as the Texans have been there and only now when they're lobbying for a new stadium is when it's all of a sudden an issue.

Yeah, idk their motivations, but I personally think it would be cool to set something up similar to the Star in Dallas, more than likely not to that size, but a similar area.

As far as the stadium, NRG needs a refresh, and I have read that is something that is under consideration. Whether it is NRG or a new stadium, Rodeo will need buy in as well.

On Mertz, I think they traded up for him with the belief that they will be able to IR stash him this season. The competition from DJ Lagway seemed to get him to elevate his play. We will see if that was a "figuring things out" moment or just a stretch of good play.

Florida looked way better in the 2nd half vs. A&M, cruised past Miss. State with elite offensive efficiency, took care of UCF, and was ahead 10-0 on Tennessee in the 3rd before leaving with the season ending injury. All that was done without their best WR in Eugene Wilson. Mertz's play during that stretch likely got Chimere Dike drafted.

I'm okay if they want that, I'm not okay if they want tax-payers to pay for it. The Texans have had a sweetheart deal with NRG, the reason it hasn't had a facelift is because the Texans won't pay for it.

Good news is they don't have to go far to move a lot of operations off site. There's a place nearby with plenty of room, enough room to have an entire football field. Players can practice indoors, the public can come watch as well. It needs some TLC, but it's got character.

Or they can just setup shop in Sugarland.

fair to wonder or ask...

when the Texans broke ground on NRG 25 years ago...

did they think the dome would still be standing 25 years later?

It's easy to outkick your coverage when you're a billionaire.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I like having 4 prime time games but if I am reading the schedule correctly twice we play on Monday night when there are two games. The first is week 2 at home against TB and it's a 6:00 kick which means the stadium is going to be half empty at kickoff. The other is week 7 in Seattle and that is a 9 CST kick on a Monday. Both of those kickoff times are not great.

Is there some type of scheduling rule that I don't know about? I know division champs play each other but why are we in KC for the second year in a row rather than them playing here?
