Never understood this "in Nick we trust crap" or why anyone thought he was some genius GM. Just because you don't suck as much as BoB doesn't mean you're any good.

The sooner the last remnant of The Patriot Way is out the door the better.

CJ also holds on to the ball too long. A few of those sacks should have been throwaways.

I'm pleased with how the game went, would have liked a W obviously. Offense is going to take a few games but I think they have the pieces. LA is not a bad team.

How can you be pleased with how that game went?

The offense was non existent. During the game winning drive the RB on the field was Dare Ogingawhatever the 3rd string RB and sure enough he coughs up the ball. The OL still sucks.

Yeah the defense was a bright spot but they were last year. At the end of last season everyone knew the offense needed work but I don't see anything that got fixed.

Yeah the Rams are a good team but the Texans need to be beating good teams.

Trust me, I was irate that Dare was on the field when you gotta have it. I think CJ played well, I think the OL will improve.

Caley will grow too, he seems like the ever learning type. I did not expect they'd have it all together in game 1.

I'm pleased because this was the game I thought we'd lose by multiple scores. Had it not been for a fumble by a RB on the final stretch, who should not have been in the game, we'd have won.

If we lose against Tampa, I'll sound the alarms.

I generally subscribe to the "it's not as bad as it looks"/ "it's not as good as it looks" theory with the NFL. I agree that the game wasn't as bad as it looked too. The most frustrating part is that we looked like the exact same team as last year - timid, mentally weak, and generally out of sorts. Hopefully it's just first game jitters.

It's very clear that the Ravens and Bills are on another level compared to us.

Caserio is average at best. Time to move on. Texans will continue to be average with him calling the shots.

I'm not sure why you'd draw that conclusion since we hadn't managed to breach the red zone all day before the final gaffe, much less scored a touchdown.

I'd say If not for the fumble we were well positioned for another FG, except we needed more so probably a turnover on downs facilitated by a sack and/or penalty. We displayed an aptitude for those.

Hopefully our offense is better against worse competition. The D played well.

OK, Texans Bingo is loaded and ready to go. We have 25 entries and $250 on the line.

First matter:
I need one more category pick (not Texans lose their first game) from: KTAG05, OPAG., 07ag

Every week, sometimes on Thursdays and Mondays as relevant, I'll update the spreadsheet.
It is located here: I'll try to post it every week.

There are 2 slides. One with everyone's picks - make sure yours are right - which looks like this.

And a second that charts the pace of most of the relevant categories so you can keep tabs and I can stay busy.

The three sacks were devastating plays because every time CJ ran backwards making it much worse.

Why won't he just step up? Shell shocked from last year?

Likely, yes. He did it a few times, but he likes to bail out the back and end up with 12+ yard sacks. This is coachable.

It is coachable, but is CJ coachable? He hasn't learned in 3 years of D1 football, and now in his 3rd year as a starter in the NFL. He hasn't learned to read a blitz, hasn't learnd to "feel the pocket", hasn't learned when to get rid of the ball.

Add to it, now he is saying the team "lollygagged in practice all week" well, you wear a "C" on your chest and are the leader and face of the franchise, that is on you if you feel the team was "lollygagging"

no idea. I don't recall him having that issue in Year 1, so I'm hopeful it was a defense mechanism he picked up last year that he can drop.

At the end of the day, the Rams looked smarter than the Texans. As much as I love DeMeco, his teams are consistently undisciplined and it causes them to lose games.

Right? No way we score 30 against either of these teams, much less 20 based on what I saw yesterday. Likely a blowout.

CJ was pressured on 41% of his drop backs according to NextGen stats.

https://www.si.com/nfl/texans/news/cj-stroud-speaks-houston-texans-offensive-line-troubles-la-rams

He's tied for the most games with 40%+ pressure rates since 2023.

https://www.nfl.com/news/2025-nfl-season-week-1-what-we-learned-from-sunday-s-games

Quote:

. . . C.J. Stroud was pressured on 41.2% of his dropbacks, his 14th game facing a pressure rate of 40% or higher since he entered the league in 2023 (tied for most such games in the NFL). . . .

It's just concerning to me that we're seeing the same glaring mistakes and short comings as we did last year.

Leaves me sitting here wondering WTF were the team and staff doing all offseason?

Hell I noticed there were even a couple times when play calls were coming in late and the offense seemed to be scrambling a bit to get the play call relayed and break the huddle in time. I would typically say chalk that up to new offense and play caller but that was a thing last season too.

Same ish different pile...That's the Texans tag line since their inception.

Poor line play. Too many penalties. Poor QB play. change some of the names. but, it is absolutely the same thing over and over again.

I didn't get to watch anything but the first series and the last series. The game earned the special designation of straight from DVR to deleted without watching.

The first week is always such a grab bag, but leaving very winnable road games on the table is a bitter pill, especially with a first-place schedule.

Fire Caserio????

Really??? He inherited a team in salary cap hell, with no high draft picks and a star quarterback who wanted out of town. Several years later, there probably isn't a better collection of young talent on any other NFL roster. The offensive line has been a big disappointment to say the least, but you can't ding him for the OL without acknowledging that the defense is stellar and we might have the best secondary in the league.

Overall, Caserio has done a heck of a job. His job is safe.

I didn't get to see the game but disappointed to see similar results to last season. Surprising to no one is that the o-line is bad and so the entire offense is bad. Only scores were FG's of 51, 45, and 53 yards. No TD's and Stroud sacked 3 times. More turnovers than the Rams. 11 penalties for 8 yards compared to 7 for 60 yards on the Rams. 2/9 on third down compared to 7/13 for the Rams. One trip to the red zone for the entire game. The most yards any receiver had was 32. Stroud was 19/27 for 188 yards and an int. Next Monday against TB feels like a must-win game already.

Texan's Reddit had a poster post the OL's PFF grades. Most were pretty close to average (60), but LG and RT were devastatingly bad in pass pro. No surprise Ersery was overmatched as a rookie, and we already knew Tomlinson had a history of being one of the bottom 10 in pressures allowed at his position when we brought him in as a FA.

"LT - Cam Robinson - 59 snaps - 66.3 overall grade / 57.8 pass block grade / 69.4 run block grade
LG - Laken Tomlinson - 63 snaps - 44.5 / 38.8 / 55.0
C - Jake Andrews - 45 snaps - 64.7 / 65.0 / 63.7
C - Jarrett Patterson - 18 snaps - 59.1 / 65.3 / 57.2
RG - Tytus Howard - 63 snaps - 66.5 / 72.5 / 61.6
RT - Aireontae Ersery - 63 snaps - 41.6 / 29.4 / 48.3

Also in 4 snaps at RT Blake Fisher was 49.9/18.7/69.7."

Good news is that yesterday Dalton Schultz managed to show he has a pulse.

Texans have more glaring issues than the backup TE being out.

I agree that he inherited a tough situation, but lots of missed opportunities and mistakes to go along with some good choices. I think he is very average and we can do much better. He doesn't prioritize explosive playmakers (see RB room). He doesn't know how to pick o-lineman. He couldn't help a rookie defensive minded coach put together a competent coaching staff on offense. He gets worked in draft pick trades constantly. I am just not impressed at all. I think the Cully, Easterby, Lovie fiasco falls in his lap and responsibility. He has done some nice things, but in my view the bad equals or outweighs the good. We could do much better.
