I agree…2 things

1. I know he is an Aggie and we all love him, but is Jerrod Johnson doing anything as QB coach to help Stroud's development?

2. I wonder how many veteran OC's we wanted that wouldn't touch this job because of the piss poor oline.

I agree…2 things

The maddening thing is that we KNOW the OL is terrible, yet the scheme continues to be drop back and look downfield. The Bucs did not try to throw beyond 6-8 yards all night to neutralize our pass rush and it worked. Texans should do this same thing. Play action, bootleg, misdirection, slant routes, etc. Get the ball out.

That playcalling from the 1 yard line was awful too. I have no idea what we were trying to accomplish there.

Lastly, love Dare on special teams but if he is our clutch/3rd down back... this offense is devoid of talent.

I don't think the play calling is that bad. I think it's just lack of talent.

Doesn't matter what play you call when you're OL is getting blown up and the QB is getting killed. Then when the OL does decide to block CJ can't hit the WRs.

As was the case on the goal line...Plays were there and CJ missed both with the 2nd never having a chance. CJ isn't as good as people think. He's regressed big time and he's a factor in why this offense sucks.

And yes...Dare alone is gonna cost CJ a couple games at some point.

LZ was making this point this morning. Basically wasting CJ's rookie contract on 2 guys that have never called plays and are learning on the job during the most valuable thing in football-a good qb on a rookie deal.

But they don't scheme well. CJ keeps taking big drop backs and bails out the back. Take 3 steps and get the ball out.

Talent is the real issue - hopefully Kirk will help things. Nobody else can consistently get open and Nico was doubled most the night.

Yeah, even with the chance to win at the end, this was all on the offense here. I have no clue what the game plan is. First drive was very nice, then it just turned into running in predictable situations and CJ sitting and waiting on super long 2 man routes to hope someone comes open. I though he had good pockets in the 2nd quarter and we could still get nothing done. At this point can we try Mills?

Eh...I'm not sold on the defense as an elite group. I think they're a good unit with talented players but I don't they're coached well.

Yeah they fly to the ball and SWARM but they fly around undisciplined looking for the big hit and it results in lots of missed tackles, blown assignments, penalties, and big plays.

I'm beginning to question Demeco as a HC.

Overall, it didn't help to see Tampa Bay be able to execute on offense, including running the ball with one of their best WRs out, the starting LT out, replaced by their starting Center which meant a backup playing Center, and their RT going out with Charlie Heck (former Texan cast off) replacing him. Yet they still had 360 yards of offense against one of the best defenses in the league with 169 of those yards coming from running the ball.

A staggering stat last night was Tampa running 72 plays to Houston's 46. That tells the story right there even more than the 37 to 22 minutes time of possession advantage they had

I was encouraged when CJ ran the ball well a couple of times, although he still is setting himself up to be destroyed. I'd like to see Woody Marks on the field way more. He had some real energy. The young receivers as well. The OL just getting destroyed by blitzes and CJ's indecision make it unwatchable at times.

Be careful here because the defense did not do their job to get off the field on the first two drives. Bucs had 13 mins TOP in the first 20 minutes. Yes, the Texans didn't sustain drives, but the defense continued to let the Bucs make plays when it was time to get off the field.

One of those was the bad call on Stingley. And they also missed the trip on their TD. It's one thing that college officials mess up. I am amazed at how often pro officials continue to miss calls.

The defense was getting GASHED by the TB run game all night. Texans had no answer for the ground game. Both RBs too.

That wasn't a result of bad calls and being exhausted form being on the field so much.

I noticed multiple times that rushers over pursued, lack of gap integrity, and bad tackling.

And again...That's Demeco's unit. His hand picked guys running his scheme and his play calls. It's embarrassing to watch a team march downfield for a walk off TD when you have a defensive focused HC with the talent they have on the field. It shouldn't happen. Regardless of what the offense does.

Well Texans' Bingo didn't take long to update today.

Through 2 games, the team is under its pace on every single category - wins, Stroud, Nico, Schultz, Kirk (hasn't played), INT, and fumble recoveries.

Andre Johnson needs to appear in Nico's locker like a genie and say, "For the love of God, don't sign an extension with this team!"

Schultz is the closest to his numbers, on pace for 51 catches and 485 yards vs. squares of 56 and 575.

From a personal standpoint, I feel fantastic about taking the Texans under 9.5.

I didn't watch Raiders-Chargers after enduring our game, but Ashton Jeanty has 81 yards and 1 TD after 2 games? Yikes.

You're correct, the Texans have converted an NFL-low 22.2% of their third downs, and the closest to them is Tennessee at 27.6%. The closest in total conversions is 7 by the Vikings and Jets. 17 penalties has us in the bottom quarter of the league. Houston has had a total of 30 first downs, which only exceeds the Dolphins, Titans, and Vikings.

It's not hard to quantify how bad we suck.

You can have a gaffe like that and still have a high grade. That relates back to some of the NFL personalities I was listening to today pointing out that some of the o-line for Houston did great 1:1 last night but that communication on blitz pick-up seemed non-existent. Which I think is what we're seeing in the grades, which goes back to us having the same issues.

Bullock got beat on Tampa's first TD on fairly basic coverage

he also whiffed on Bucky's 20-yard catch & run on the final drive

I know why this is all really annoying me. This reminds me of the Jimbo era in Aggie football. Lots of early promise, but then the oline goes to ****, weird unexplained injuries, and talented players regressing for no reason

James Cook scores his 4th TD in 3 games, on pace for 23.

Achane has 62 yards rushing, gets him on pace for 833, a hair below his Square of 850.
He didn't score this week, so his TD pace is down to 11 (square is 12)

Well on the plus news side going into the weekend, Jake Andrews, Christian Kirk, and Braxton Berios are projected to play on Sunday. So we could have our full offensive starters in place for the first time this year.
