I mean the eagles traded their starting S, CJGJ, to us for Kenyon and then cut Kenyon.

Harrison Bryant released

So was this the Texans "taking care" of Metchi? Sent him to a contender instead of cutting him and taking the chance he ends up in Cleveland?

Seems weird to cut Bryant after just trading for him. Metchie has value.

I don't agree at all. Metchie had/has absolutely zero value.

Of course he does, that is why he is still employed. I think you are confusing value with need. We did not need him. And yes, he fell well short of expectations coming out of the draft.

My point is more a question, perhaps. Why trade for Bryant then cut him? We are not exactly deep at TE. Do we get compensatory picks, did Nick save some money by doing it this way vs just cutting Metchie etc. Just seems like there may be more to it.

Or, was Bryant just not what we had hoped so they cut bait. It does feel like Nick may have just tried to do Metchie a solid.

There was a trade. Not sure what else you need.

So I dug in a bit further than I had. We sent a 6th rd and received a 5th round in the Metchie deal. So, we moved up a round and basically swapped back the 5th and 6th round included in the CJGJ trade. While not a sizzler, looks like Nick came out ahead on this one too.

Ok, practice squad is filling out

  • offensive tackle Trent Brown
  • fullback Jakob Johnson
  • running back Jawhar Jordan
  • wide receiver Jared Wayne
  • linebacker Jackson Woodard
  • Center Eli Cox
  • linebacker K.C. Ossai
  • defensive tackle Haggai Ndubuisi
  • OL Jaylon Thomas
  • DE Solomon Byrd
  • CB Damon Arnette
  • tight end Luke Lachey
  • DB Myles Bryant
  • DT Junior Tafuna
  • tight end Harrison Bryant (this one was confusing, apparently he's on the PS but will probably be elevated to the active roster before week 1)

Also not to happy about this coming out of the press conference

Caserio said they'll evaluate Mixon at the end of that four-game window without offering any assurance that Mixon is expected to play at all this season.

"We'll see, we'll take it one day at a time," Caserio said, via Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle.

Caserio and Demeco were both pr*ckly when it came to discussing Mixon's status. Weird deal.

Reports seem to be that he's been TOTALLY MIA.

Something is off. I have that feeling in my bones. Hope I am wrong but the silence is deafening.

This feels a lot like the CJ shoulder issue which ended up being a nothing burger, but I agree - something here feels more off

CJ was just people inferring things from how he was practicing with a new coach.....being placed on NFI is a bigger red flag, especially since no one knows exactly what the injury is or how it happens. On NFI, the team can claim salary back if they want to, so it's pretty worrisome that NC and DeMeco are very defensive on the timeline.

My concern is we're not going to see him on the field at all this year.

On an upside, here is a guy breaking down RB Woody Marks

Some really good stuff in there

Mixon is not a young pup -- he's 29 years old

and the Texans ran him hard last season

245 carries + 36 receptions = 281 touches in 14 regular season games

plus another 43 carries and 3 receptions in the playoffs

grand total of 327 touches in 16 games

the scary thing...

the Texans enter the season with 1 playmaker on offense (Nico)

one barometer for the 2025 offense...

last year Fairbairn attempted 42 field goals including a whopping 16 from 50+ yards

need both of those numbers to come down

He's on the non-football injury list. My gut feeling is he was doing something that is potentially forbidden by his contract, ended up hurt, and he's not saying what it is because it could result in his contract being voided. Houston is likely investigating and Mixon is not cooperating. That would result in both Caserio and Ryans being pretty mad at him. This is 100% speculation on my part but it fits. My guess is they give the rest of the guys on the roster a chance to earn carries since there's nothing really out there on the free agent market.

100%, our kicking stats were some of the most damning out there. They were proof we couldn't move the ball as much as we needed to and couldn't keep the offense on the field. The overall weakness of the division helped us get to the playoffs. We really need the o-line to be improved this year to give the team a chance. It doesn't matter if we have a top 5 defense if the offense can't stay on the field long enough to score TD's. The longer the defense is on the field the more tired they get and the more likely they are to make mistakes, they can only do so much.

Editing to say I agree, but we have good potential for more. If Kirk comes back fully healthy, if one of the Iowa State WRs hit, and/or if Woody Marks is a late round gem at RB (which in this age of NFL can happen) then we'll have more.

Never mind, my bad, I'm working and posting so editing and I get your point W is the same as mine

It could be, that's a common hazardous activity in an NFL contract. It can also happen from an injury at an off-site training facility. It could be as simple as playing pickup basketball too. Whatever it is, it was damaging enough to his body that the team is upset and could be looking to move on and void whatever is left on his deal.

Mixon is signed for $9.4MM this season and has $13MM in guarantees on this deal through next season. If he violated his contract that's not insignificant money that Houston can retain.

If the Texans knew this, how come they didn't get Brian Robinson Jr.
1. They don't think he is very good
2. They like what they see in Chubb, marks and or Pierce.
3. They are targeting another RB

They want to draft Love or Singleton with the 32nd pick in next year's draft.
