Fire alarm has been going off for 15 minutes. Announcement says to exit the building. Not a single person has moved and workers are business as usual.

Somehow, some way I actually managed to use a United Club one-time pass in Denver Wednesday morning, which was nice since my flight ended up getting delayed four hours. Every other time I've walked by a club lately they have had the "no one time passes" sign up.

As of a few weeks ago it looked like the new B club buildout (can't ever remember if it's east or west) looked to be almost complete. If it's since opened up that's probably why you were able to get in. A lot more capacity when both are open. They're pretty nice in there as well.

LaGuardia united club is still the nicest club I've seen thus far. Hopefully IAH B club is on par.

SLC is great. And a United club is opening there next year. And they charge normal prices, they have some agreement they can't charge more than what is market for the city. Unlike OTG run places at IAH that will charge you $30 for a quesadilla.

New Centurion Club and another Delta Sky Club coming this fall. SLC is brand spanking new, so no wonder it's really nice. The old airport just couldn't expand any more. Some good planning and room to grow much like ATL by adding terminals one by one to the north.

I started coming to SLC/Park City in 1999. It is absolutely amazing what the Olympics have done/are doing for the infrastructure in the area. I say this acknowledging the shenanigans in getting the 2002 Games and who knows what shenanigans have gone on to get the 2034 Games.

Lots of new construction in the Deer Valley East area and Midway/ Heber City. The Heber/ Provo River valley area has so much to do year round.
The Provo Airport is about the same distance from Heber City as the Salt Lake City Airport.

Agreed about the SLC airport. It's a hike from the United terminal to parking, but so much better than dealing with IAH as our normal departure city. Even during construction, it's not bad at all.

Air Canada lounge right across from it is nice as well if United is too crowded or want different food options

Returned thru IAH this week. Gate was at B and went thru the construction hallway to the train/ C terminal. lol at the window unit acs and torn up seats at the B gates. Why does Houston let the Haitians run our airport? Made the mistake of going in the C restroom in baggage claim- true third world filth at 8 pm. Are Sly's airport interns still running the place?

Houston should hire the Salt Lake City team to run IAH. Vey impressively clean and they even have a shake shack! All new terminal seating in SLC has a power port/ charger between every 2 seats.

This thread has taken some twists and turns, but becoming the virtual home of SLC fan club might have been the least predictable one of all.

I fly there next month and I'm unexpectedly excited to see the airport

Actually, it's the complete incompetence of the city employees running/ working at the airport. And the COH mayor/ city council. The number of passengers is just another excuse for piss poor management.

If you are flying United, bring your walking shoes. It is like a mile to get to the exits..

With all the SLC love, it should be pointed out that the United gates are a long walk from the main terminal. And while that terminal is clean and new-ish, the food options are limited.

It's SLC

Normally they serve cans of soup that are being rotated out of the inventory kept in the bunkers of local citizens.

Last time I went through SLC ~10 years ago they still had indoor smoking rooms. You don't get that kinda charm with an updated airport! I bet if they put one in at IAH they'd be able to charge more for entry than the airline clubs!

I come in and out of SLC often in the winter and summer. Like Denver, they built a completely new set of terminals, garages, etc. I think the better comparison to SLC is Denver, tbh.

That said, I absolutely love SLC. I don't mind the walking to/from the B gates at all. It will be even better once this fall's gate expansion is open that will include the new Centurion Club. And even better yet in fall '26 with the new United Club.

IAH, like LGA and BOS, has had to 'build in place' given the lack of space to do what SLC did. I think a better comp for SLC is IAH terminal E or the new C North. I will be very happy once B north and the new lobby/United Club is complete. Even better once B south is completed.

All this to say the COH and Airport Authority are far from perfect. I used to cringe every time I saw Lee Brown's mug driving out on JFK and thought that was the epitome of lazy/incompetent leadership. Hopefully we're past that and the airport's investments in the new E, C North and B will make the next 10-20 years better.

Wonder how much SLC being mostly run my Mormons has anything to do with the overall feel and cleanliness?

LGA's new terminals are outstanding...whatever they did, we should mirror

I would suspect the demographics rolling through SLC are fairly different than what passes through IAH as well.

And it only took them 7-8 years to finish it (2016-2024)!

Although, IMO, during construction, LGA was way worse than IAH.

You know what LGA's new united terminal and SLC have in common? That's right, a shake shack.

To be fair, I don't think it's any different than DEN. It's just wayyyyy newer (Denver opened in '95, SLC in '20) and SLC reflects slightly update design aspects, albeit 20 years of them.

Denver is now doing some renovations/reconfiguring of the main hall and it's a mess, just like any other airport update of the last 50 years. I flew through Denver Monday night.

The longtime Houston Airport authority lead resigned early 2024 being replaced by an internal replacement but I think that has generally be well received.

That's fair. We were up there over spring break and just noticed how much nicer, cleaner, and we'll maintained everything was.

Went to the children's museum there and nothing was broken, all the pieces were where they were supposed to be, everyone was friendly. The Houstons children's museum couldn't be like that. Just felt like there was a level of respect from the staff and clientele that you don't get in Houston

Flying out of terminal C tomorrow morning at 9:30 with 3 kids ages 8-12. We're not checking bags and have Pre Check. Any thoughts on what time to arrive at the airport?

I only ever fly out of Hobby and try to avoid IAH at all costs.

Depends on how anxious your wife is, but with precheck on a Saturday morning, I bet security takes <10 min

Closer to two hours than one. You never know when the $h&@ will hit the fan with 3 kids. It's easy to kill a little extra time in the airport if needed. I'd rather have time to kill than rushing with kids.
