Im beginning to consider driving to austin to fly back to IAH to make sure I get on my flight to Europe Friday evening

If you can rebook your itinerary from AUS -> IAH -> Destination, a one-way Southwest flight out of Hobby would keep you from having to deal with renting a car or leaving it in Austin.
ATL may currently be worse than IAH, but they stopped reporting wait times earlier today, so no one knows except the people in line.

There's an IAH to BCS shuttle. Might look at that then fly back to IAH

United doesn't run this route anymore. Only flights out of Easterwood now go to DFW on American.

I arrived at Intercontinental at 11AM today for a 2:45PM flight. The security line was an estimated 4 hours — there’s no precheck — so I booked a @SouthwestAir flight, took a @lyft to Hobby, and got through security in less than 5 minutes.

By shuttle, the poster might be referring to the Ground Shuttle service. It's about $40 one way and runs multiple times a day.
I was suggesting ground shuttle to BCS then fly back to Houston to bypass security.
But he's saying United cancelled that route. Next closest airport then is Victoria. Maybe Beaumont

So does this mean all these flights are departing half full bc people can't get thru security?
This is what I did today. Pulled up at 9. Park shuttle driver was trying to tell me C&E were pretty much the same but saw E was hour less wait. Luckily made the right call and went with E. Took me an hour half and my coworker who went C and got there about 20 min before me barely made the 12:20 flight.

The new part of terminal c definitely was not crowded today. I was there for about 5 hours too due to a flight delay.

When this happened on the first day of spring break at Hobby without warning planes were departing flat out empty. No one was arriving early enough and Southwest had not even figured out they needed to accept baggage more than 2 hours early. People were sitting at the ticket counter just waiting to check baggage.
Is the My TSA app generally reliable? I'm flying from IAH to Denver Thursday at 6 pm. Thank you.

Honestly, tomorrow is going to be bad. I bailed after spending 5 hours in line to catch a 1030 flight. I was still an hour away. There are probably 3000 people in E right now waiting on security which is no longer letting people through the initial TSA ID checkpoint. I imagine many of those will over night right there in the lobby to keep their spot in line. This is making business travel impossible and is going to from an inconvenience to a real problem soon.
Just make sure there is a List with everyone's name on it to keep people in order…… I mean nobody would mess with a list with peoples name on it that have been standing in line or anything… It's safe!!

I dont know about the TSA app, but the Houston airport website was estimating 4 hours. It would've taken at least 5.5 hours to get to my gate.
For reference. Flight was today at 8:25pm. IAH website read 250 minutes for security in terminal A (no clear or pre check available in any terminal today). Arrived at terminal a at 2:45pm, the TSA line toured the underground tram area (line went from A all the way to C and then back again). Made it through security at 6:30. So IAH website was somewhat accurate. Was painful.
Standing in line at terminal a for last hour. It's probably a 4 hour+ wait now. This is crazy. People with kids are giving up and leaving. I'm thinking regional airports are probably the way to go if you need to travel.

Really appreciate the report. I saw this and the wait time website this morning and parked at IAH but taking a Lyft to Hobby for a 1-way this morning. Will plan to fly back through IAH on the way back since IAH is much closer to my house.
I seriously cannot miss my flight tomorrow. It's for a very important meeting. Should I cancel my 730am and find something out of hobby? Is hobby not having these issues? I haven't been following all of this very closely
