Man if Texans just beat Jax or TB, we'd be feeling different

Browns lost 32-13 with DG spraying 35 attempts about with 2 interceptions. It feels inevitable Shadeur will see the field at some point.

Big game this week. 4-4 going into a home game against the Jags is ideal.

Caley seemed like he clicked today. Realizing that he should just call plays that fit our guys. Let's hope it's not an anomaly, but 3 of last 4 isn't bad…

Never trust the Browns to do anything that seems like something that a football team would do.

We're going to have a good idea whether anything like that happened since Denver is no joke on defense. They're at 36 sacks through 8 games and could break the sack record this year, the 84 Bears had 72. For comparison our defense after 7 games only has 16 sacks. We are leading the NFL with only giving up 266.9 yards/game and 14.7 points/game but we don't get to the QB nearly as much as you'd think we would with those numbers. This game scares me for Stroud and the o-line.

On that, it's also got to be one of the biggest coincidences that CJ had his best game without Nico? I've really started to wonder if CJ and/or Caley have been trying to force feed Nico without any confidence in the other players before this week?

Just crazy to have this type of explosion in the passing game by CJ and your top 5 receivers are 3 rookies (Noel, Makrs, and Higgins) and 2 role players in Hutchinson and Berrios that have all barely done anything this year. I mean, even in the Baltimore game, 15 of CJ's 27 attempts went to Nico, Kirk, and Shultz. In this game Nico out, Kirk out, and Shultz had 3 targets out of CJ's 39 attempts. It was a completely different look for him.

I wonder how this will be distributed and designed going forward? Especially Noel's playing time.

There are ways to mitigate the rush some, but your QB has to be the one that does it through identifying potential rushers and trusting your hot reads. These are two things that I've been really down on with CJ this year, and the trusting your reads is the one he can fix the most. I feel like he's waiting for guys to get completely open before throwing it because he doesn't have the trust that they will make the play. I'm really hoping this SF game can help with some of that trust with the younger players.

You know I was thinking the same thing. At least part of it has to be a total lack of a scouting report on several guys for the 49ers defense. But I have to wonder if maybe the guys who played yesterday are all guys killing it in practice with the new system while others , maybe even Nico, aren't, and this as their opportunity to show it in a game. There were so many quick hitters that were crisp throws. It was like the Seattle game never happened.

Yeah agree, and to the point I made in the other post, maybe this just forced CJ to trust these guys. I mean he always seemed to trust Tank the most, then Nico because of his relationships with them. Add that to the fact that he didn't have a lot of reps with anyone this summer because of whatever was going on, and this just might have been a forced trust build moment.

Hopefully they build on it moving forward, because if he trusts a lot of these guys to be where he expects, then we can overcome a lot of the OL shortcomings. But it has to be CJ doing that.

The good thing about the Texans in this case is we don't ever have to worry about seeing them in some gawd-awful uniform from the olden days.

Wasn't like 2/3 of the 49ers defense hurt as well? Sure that helped

Of course that helped, I don't think anyone was saying otherwise? But that's the first time CJ has thrown for over 300 in a year. So something had to have changed in his approach, since we haven't been playing world beaters in every single game since then?

So just talking about what could have changed, because even though most Texans fans don't believe it, teams can still play average to good offense even with crap o-lines. Hell look at Tampa earlier in the year before they broke all their receivers. They were missing both starting tackles and their best guard when they played us and others, and they could still move the ball, score points, play good defense, win games, and are near the top of the NFC.

Oh no doubt, I was meaning more that he could trust the WRs to be in spots/open because the 49ers defense was decimated. If they show continued improvement next week against a very good Broncos D (that will likely be in his face constantly) then I'll be pretty impressed and hopefully means we have it figured out

IMO Caley (maybe Stroud too) just didn't trust the young WRs. It was incredibly frustrating to watch Higgins and Noel get one target a game, make the most of that target, then disappear the rest of the game.

Now with Nico out this week they didn't have a choice but to get them the ball and they stepped up.

Hopefully this now opens things up and they start dialing up plays for these guys.

I think if you go back and watch Seattle tape, the route concepts weren't too different than this week. CJ wasn't seeing or making the throws. CJ didn't practice much of the offseason and it'd be impossible to build chemistry.

Nico and Kirk being out forced his hand, and I think it's a harbinger of more to come.

True, although I'll scale expectations accordingly after watch the Broncos defense dismantle the cowboys.

I'll agree, I re-watched some of it, and there were moments when Stroud had opportunities to throw but panicked instead. Hopefully this will allow him to make quicker decisions and keep that pass rush at bay as much as he can.

Texans need to finish out 7-3 to have a realistic shot at the playoffs. Stealing one against a good Denver team this week would be huge considering we still have to play Bills, Colts (x2), Chiefs, and Chargers down the stretch.
