Apparently not that this was the team low for our O's total yardage for the season, that we won by virtue of the D and 3 TOs by the Bills, and that Mills' greatest contribution was not blowing it by turning the ball over?

The Bills knew we were going to run and stacked the box and we still had 108 yards on 26 carries. 50% for 150 with no TOs was enough from QB2 for the team to survive.

It wouldn't have been though without his 2 TD passes too (the one to Kirk looked the Bills thought neither party capable of putting that together).

Upper 1/3 backup QB for sure based on the season's results. Mills is going to get (sort of) paid by some team for backup/grooming services next contract. He's shown he's just below the "I can't believe I'm having to backup QB now" level of former starting QBs.

I could not disagree with you more. I think they're awesome uniforms and I love the helmets. I think it's our best one.

Love the battle red!

Guess I'm just officially old....

Great win!!!

I guess redag06 is past 75 years old because it seems he went to bed at 8:11 p.m. and somehow missed the rest of the game.

I do think Mills has showed way more poise than CJ has but he just isn't nearly accurate enough. CJ was looking a lot better before he went down so hopefully that comfort and progression carries on with him next game. We dont need CJ to be elite, just good will work
Faustus

I think he looked more poised tonight than CJ has at times because they tried to stop the run (to mixed results) rather than our passing attack which by most measures floundered.

Mills wasn't running for his life from blitzes, he was largely making errant throws in the face of eventual pressure. But he did convert twice and didn't cough the ball up which is A+ for the backup.

Interesting take. But CJ better get a win coming back next week or there will be rumblings...

QB's taken in 2021 before Davis Mills:

First Round
1 - Trevor Lawrence
2 - Zach Wilson
3 - Trey Lance
11 - Justin Fields
15 - Mac Jones

Second Round
64 - Kyle Trask

Third Round
66 - Kellen Mond

Mills has proved himself as a solid backup, which not every team has. He might not be Jacoby Brissett, but I'm glad we have him.

Other than the 4th quarter comeback, Mills hasn't been good at QB…

Don't agree

Why do you think that?

I just think we have cleaned up our penalties a little and are tackling better.

There is no controversy. Texans had 36 yards of offense in the 2nd half.

Mills is a safety net and has been great, but let's not act like Seattle game would have been better or won with Mills...

Davis is this decade's TJ Yates.

Hopefully having CJ back will be a jolt for the offense. At the end of the day he has to play better. This defense will put them in a position to win. Offense has to step up if they want to make the playoffs.
CharleyKerfeld

It feels like Mills is playing great because he isn't turning the ball over. Your offense can suck ass for long stretches, but as long as you're getting rid of the ball with long punts instead of turnovers that turn into a short field, you're not a negative player. Stroud had 5 picks in 8 games. Mills has 1 pick in 5 games. Mills is by no means better, but he's played really intelligently, and that's appealing to fans of the game.

Doing no real research, that game feels like a top 5-top 8 regular season win of all time for the Texans. I usually only watch Josh Allen in the playoffs or if it's crucial to my FFL team, but I've never seen him beaten up like that. Really remarkable.

If the Chiefs beat the Colts Sunday, the Texans can cut the division lead to 1 game next weekend. Insane.

He made a few big throws last night, but I get it. And I have zero doubt CJ is the better QB.

All I'm saying is he's been the starting QB for 3 straight wins, and if CJ comes out and loses to the Colts, then to the Chiefs (and maybe doesn't play great in either), people will start asking questions. I really hope that doesn't happen.

But those are 2 good teams. We'll see. CJ has been up and down this season , and his Passer Rating for the year (94) isn't' much better than Mills at 90. We need to see CJ vs Ravens CJ, where he lit it up.

Mills is not a great QB.. but if CJ comes back and immediately starts throwing the ball to the other team again and we're looking at another L after Davis went 3-0, the calls for a change will be deafening.

This is a big point, no matter how bad he played, we're 3-0 with Mills starting, including up to this point, our best win of the season last night. CJ has to be at least 1-1 (I thought the Chiefs were next when I first posted) against the Cotls and a so so Chiefs team and should be at least 3-1 going into the matchup with the Chargers in week 17. If not, there will be a lot of calls for change

I just think looking back how CJ was starting to play a lot better the last 2+ games he played, he was moving the ball…heck against Denver they were really moving the ball, albeit they were getting TD's. Davis being 3-0, says more about the D than it does Mills, and I am not taking anything away from what Mills did during his starts.

If I were a betting man, I believe the Texans will beat Indy, Jones is coming back down to earth….as far as th Chiefs game, there is no world in which I would pick the Texans against the Chiefs, none.

I'm hoping, and I agree about CJ. I think we would have won the Broncos game if he didn't get hurt. But fandom is fickle, and we didn't win and the back QB is 3-0. It will be tough if CJ struggles coming back.

My hope, and honestly what I think will happen is CJ comes back right where he left off and we go 4-0 in the next 4 games to jump to 10-5 going into week 17. I think if CJ can guide this offense to be just middle of the road, the defense will carry the day.

Biggest thing CJ has to do when he gets back is start trust everyone else like he trusts Nico when he throws the ball. The biggest issues I've seen him have in the last few games was not really trusting his reads, holding for too long, and then putting himself in a position where the pass rush affects him.
CharleyKerfeld

The only way the Texans can beat the Chief is if all the refs get hurt like that one did last night.

Last night's game was a real eye-opener into how much Mahomes gets away with. Allen didn't appear to get any calls his way that I noticed.

The other thing that has really helped is Kirk being back in the line-up after being injured for the first half of the season. Having someone to target besides Nico is really nice.

of course Mahomes gets the Michael Jordan/ Tom Brady god treatment from officials. if he asks for a call, he gets a call. ...but that doesn't mean this team can't beat the Chiefs. They are beatable. It will be tougher, though. No one should let the Bills win fool them; Bills are seriously flawed as evidenced by their Miami game week before last. Their OL and defense are damaged. Their WR and TE situation is dire. Allen had to take over the game by himself to beat Tampa last week, but obviously he couldn't do that to Texans defense. Mahomes won't try to be Allen. It will certainly be tougher. But the way this defense is playing, very doable.

Biggest takeaway from last night is Higgins getting more involved. He still needs some refinement like that sideline catch he didn't try to tap his second foot. But, he is a big body and if can start being a possession receiver, it'll mean the opposing team will have to put their bigger DB on him. This should help Nico.

Stover was also bad, but hopefully that is just rust.
CharleyKerfeld
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Bills' run defense is awful. if they get the Colts in the post-season, Taylor's going to go after AP's single game record.

Last night was a big win for Texans Bingo as well, that was the Texans' first national TV win of the year after starting 0-2.

And the win pace is up to 9 (over/under 9.5).

Sanders has also gone above and beyond the necessary 1 completion needed for Bingo by going 4 for 16 with a pick, two sacks, and a Lamar Jackson snub.

He and Watson chest bumped in the locker room later while mocking Browns fans on social media.

Go Chiefs. I find myself super excited to watch this game for all kinds of reasons. I haven't seen the Colts play this year, the Texans gain a game on someone no matter who wins, and it's rare your next 2 opponents are playing each other. Plus I want to see how many BS calls Mahomes gets away with today.

If I were the Colts I'd tell Taylor he's getting 45 carries today to keep the Chiefs off the field.
CharleyKerfeld
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Colts shoot themselves in the foot with 3 penalties on opening drive, including a false start on 4th and 3 at midfield when they were going for it.

They've only punted 20 times all year - good grief.
